Chrono Duality

Multi-Timeline Exploration & Investigation Prototype

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Chrono Duality is a first-person narrative exploration prototype set within a fractured sci-fi environment shaped by a failed experiment.

Players take on the role of a temporal investigator, navigating across multiple timelines to reconstruct the truth behind a catastrophic incident. Each timeline presents a different state of the same space, revealing new information through comparison, overlap, and contrast.

By switching between time states in real time, players uncover hidden paths, piece together environmental clues, and gradually build a coherent understanding of what happened.

The project focuses on level design and spatial storytelling, using timeline shifts as a core interaction to structure exploration and narrative discovery within a single, interconnected space.

Core Prototype (V1)

This phase focuses on establishing the multi-timeline system and spatial relationships across different states.

Design Process

Demo Video V1

This prototype validates the core timeline-switching mechanic, but lacks refined interaction and player guidance.

Design Expansion (V2)

This iteration explores a third-person reinterpretation of one timeline, developed as part of a constrained design test brief.

While the original prototype prioritised first-person narrative immersion and timeline comprehension, this version shifts toward a more structured gameplay experience, introducing stealth-oriented traversal and clearer spatial readability.
